Our Story

Allegretto Bed & Breakfast was started in 2007 in one of two adjoining houses that were bought by EdShelton in 2005. Lautaro Rosas 542 and 540, were both in a pretty run-down state and it was a while before the family could move from living above the restaurant into 542. Once renovation of that was completed in 2006, work begun to build the Bed & Breakfast next door. Like the work in 542, this involved knocking down walls and sanding floors, but also building bathrooms for each room.

The Bed & Breakfast finally opened in the middle of 2007.

For the first few years the B&B very much took second place to the restaurant which demanded much more attention, but in 2010 Ed knocked the two houses together, taking out a staircase and  generating two extra bedrooms, a bigger kitchen and dining room and a comfortable sitting room where guests could relax and mingle.

To this end, the sitting room is equipped with a Subbuteo table football game, a 1960 jukebox packed with classic singles, and a piano. And there is also always a jigsaw in progress on the coffee table for those wanting distraction.

The final stage of the expansion, involving the conversion of Ed’s flat upstairs in 542 to give two more rooms, will be complete by December 2010, in time for the new year. The hotel will then have eight bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and sleep a maximum of 21.
